Braces are a combination of attachments (called brackets or bonds) that are glued to your teeth which can be used in combination with small bands used on the back teeth. An archwire connects the teeth together and acts as a guide for the teeth to move along which generates pressure to ultimately move your teeth to their desired position.
It will take about an hour to place your braces at AAA Orthodontics in Strathpine and Albany Creek and you will need to come in for a check-up every six to eight weeks.
The time taken for treatment will depend on the severity of the problem and how far your teeth have to move as well as your age which determines your rate of bone turnover. Treatment can range between 6 and 30 months.
Standard braces have been used to treat many millions of patients over many decades and are the most cost-effective way of producing a perfect smile.
Incognito™ Lingual Braces from 3M are placed on the inner side of your teeth—so no one will know you have got braces. Because of the way Incognito braces are custom-made they require fewer adjustments and visits to AAA Orthodontics.
Advantages of incognito braces include:
- Minimal discomfort due to the fact that the wires can be inserted closer to your teeth.
- Incognito™ braces are suitable for everyone. If you can get traditional braces, you should be a suitable candidate for Incognito™ braces.
Insignia braces are computer designed braces with their own customised treatment plan. These braces are tailor-made to suit your specific oral anatomy. During your initial consultation an impression of your teeth will be taken and sent off to the Insignia smile design lab.
Insignia braces are tailored to suit your specific needs. One of the advantages of Insignia braces is that the braces are calculated to affect tooth movement in the optimum way. This means the braces will be more comfortable and will require fewer visits to the dentist.

How long will the braces be on?
Treatment time depends on a number of factors including the severity of the orthodontic problem. Treatment may range from 6-9 months up to 30 months with most being in the 18-24 month range.
Do braces hurt?
Fitting the braces does not hurt but the teeth usually start to hurt a few hours later. This can be managed with analgesics. Braces are not like they used to be and the latest “high tech” wires reduce the forces while acting over a greater range of movement. This means less discomfort and shorter treatment times. The lips and cheeks may need a few days to become used to the braces and ulcers may occur during this time.
What foods should I avoid when my braces are on?
Avoid consuming hard and sticky foods. Generally if you would normally eat it with a knife and fork you can eat it when you have braces. Hard and sticky foods damage your braces and can make your treatment take a lot longer.
How do I clean my teeth with braces on?
You will be shown how to do this. Your toothbrush should have soft bristles and a small head and you will need to replace it regularly. You should brush your teeth after every time you eat. If your brushing is poor you may have frosty white marks on your teeth where they have begun to decay around (not under) the braces. These marks are permanent.
