Adult Orthodontics For Working Professionals
Orthodontics as an adult in the workplace can pose some challenges; thankfully there are many options to consider.
There are certainly some differences when it comes to getting orthodontics as an adult as opposed to a teenager. Where it is commonplace for teens to have braces during school, in the workplace, visible braces may pose some inconvenience. Thankfully, developments in modern dentistry offer a few different options so that you can achieve a straight smile with discretion and without impacting your work life.
Types of braces and treatment
There are three main options for discreet orthodontic treatment, with two different types of braces. Both have the effectiveness of traditional braces, with the added benefit of being nearly non-visible to the average viewer. The third option, Invisalign, doesn’t involve brackets or wires at all, instead opting for clear aligner trays to produce straight teeth.
Clear braces are essentially the same as traditional braces. However, the key difference is that the brackets of clear braces are transparent. This means that you can enjoy the time-tested results of metal braces, without the trouble of visible brackets. Clear braces are just as strong as traditional braces, and some patients feel that they are more comfortable. Taking care of clear braces is the same as typical braces. You need to ensure that you brush carefully and avoid hard foods that could dislodge the brackets.
Incognito (Lingual) Braces
Like clear braces, lingual braces offer the same effective treatment as traditional braces; however, they are not visible as they are placed on the back of your teeth. This method allows you to continue your current lifestyle with no visible alteration to the front of your teeth. Incognito Braces involve a step by step treatment process to achieve treatment results. After your initial consultation, a model of your teeth will be made, and custom brackets fashioned before the braces are attached to your teeth. This is a terrific option for those who require their visible teeth to be bracket free for their workplace.
Aside from braces, there is the option of Invisalign; this uses clear aligner tray technology to position your teeth gradually over time. When getting Invisalign, multiple digital scans of your mouth will be made, and your treatment plan formulated. This means you will be able to see a digitised version of your treatment progression before you begin using your trays. You will use a series of trays that will move your teeth into position, after which you will transition to the next tray, and so forth until the end of your treatment. These aligner trays are transparent and nearly invisible to the average viewer. Invisalign provides benefits beyond transparency, as you can remove the aligner trays at any time there is no need to limit your diet. You are free to consume any foods, as long as you brush your teeth thoroughly afterwards.
Even as an adult, you are not limited in options for straightening teeth. It is possible to achieve a straight smile in a discreet fashion and continue with your work without the inconvenience of visible orthodontic treatment.
If you are considering one of the above mentioned orthodontic treatments, it’s important to seek the services of a trained orthodontist. They will, of course, be best positioned to determine which treatment plan suits your particular orthodontic concern.
